Joining together for an alfresco lunch afield during a day of hunting is a time-honored Southern tradition. Family and friends gather to share a meal and stories and enjoy the connection to the land and its bounty. In this homage to the custom, a collection of finery from Kevin’s Catalog, based in Thomasville, Georgia, lends elegant accompaniments to elevate the observance of a day in the outdoors.

Gien Sologne Game China plates trimmed with feathers, ferns, acorns, deer, quail, woodcock, and hare accompany wicker chargers and Juliska tortoise glasses, adding texture and interest with translucent brown glass and dark specks.

The glassware blends beautifully with Sabre Paris tortoise flatware. Kevin’s exclusive Game Bird cloth napkins are designed by Kevin’s and feature detailed quail artwork by the late Kat McCall of Augusta, Georgia. Vagabond House pewter feather napkin rings complete the look. The backdrop for the lovely table is a Gien Slogne tablecloth accented with woodland scenes along the edging.

Taking a cue from nature, a Quail Covey decanter from the Upland Game Birds Collection features soaring quail etched into the glass. A Hunt Hurricane accent piece, created exclusively for Kevin’s, is crafted with an Old-World method in Northern Italy. It teams beautifully with a Quail Pinecone tureen and tray by the same artisans, also exclusive to Kevin’s, featuring beautiful bobwhites with longleaf pine. Kevin’s feathered quail is an ideal accent piece to ornament the table setting.

An arrangement of pinecones, longleaf pine cuttings, magnolia leaves and goldenrod, blended with pheasant feathers and natural accents, complements the natural beauty of the setting.

Paper cocktail napkins illustrated with well-dressed Labrador retrievers, created by Kevin, David Lanier, and Alexa Pulitzer, add a jovial note to the toasts for the day and are nested in a square wicker cocktail napkin holder to echo the natural ambiance of the scene.

A LEGACY OF CREATIVITY

As we appreciate the beauty of our hunt table, we also share sorrow in remembering artist and Georgia native Katherine “Kat” McCall, who was killed on Sept. 27 after being hit by a tree felled by Hurricane Helene. Kat’s works have been featured countless times, and her watercolor collections depicting Southern game birds and their feathers are among many products sold by Kevin’s. She is missed by many, including the outdoor community, who appreciate her talented insight into the wildlife world.
